Football: Plain and simple

By Tom Annino

Everyone is passionate about something.

It could be a loved one. It could be an activity. It could be your job. For these men, their passion is for a game.

The word 'game' is defined by dictionary.com as: an amusement or pastime.  It’s a simple definition for a simple word.

Football, however, is anything but simple. It's a complex game of chess where the checkerboard playing surface is replaced with grass and mud, a game in which your moveable pieces are 300-pound linemen, a game in which the only real form of currency is violence.

The game of football on its own is similar as you move through the ranks of play. The shape of the ball is the same; it's still ten yards for a first down, and a touchdown is still worth six points. All that changes are the extras, the bonuses, and the recognition contained outside of the game.

What if there was a form of football where all of the distractions were taken away and all that was left was the game?

It exists. There are men playing that way every Saturday.

But it isn't just a game to them.

After all, this is football.
