Saltonstall Building
|
| The
Saltonstall building renovation will remove asbestos
from the "sick" building, allowing offices
to once again fill the building. |
|
This revitalization
project will make a once "sick" building
healthy and vibrant again.
The Saltonstall
Building renovations will breathe life into the building that once
held many state offices. The building was emptied in the late 1980s
when it was found to be laden with asbestos. State agencies were
scattered about the city where office space could be found. The
Saltonstall Buildinghas been empty since.

future site at 100 Cambridge St. will provide office
and retail space, but will be masked by a five-story
housing development in front of the tower. Courtesy

|
The empty Saltonstall
Building is now controlled by the Commonwealth. Under the new plan,
tenants will take out 20-year leases. After 20 years, control of
the building will be given back to the state.
The project
to reopen the Salonstall is linked to one that will also provide
housing units. The separate site, called Bowdoin Place, will offer
a mix of affordable and regular housing.
