Dr. Debra Moore
Dr. Debra Moore is a psychologist in Sacramento, Calif. who specializes in video game addiction and Internet usage. The following is a brief interview with her, along with several sound bytes from a past interview Dr. Moore had conducted with the Associated Press.
- Moore said the adolescents and teens that struggle from this disorder (video game addiction) suffer from several other issues that may stimulate the body to peruse the Internet as a tool of escapism.
Target Teens
- The addict must receive exposure to other activities that are important on a day-in-day-out basis so they can re-focus their lives on something positive. This will encourage the addict to get exposure to positive life elements.
Postive Outlook
- Moore said parents must take a stand and not let the addict continue to feed his addiction. In the beginning, the addict will act defensive, but once more positive results begin to occur, they will eventually praise your intervention.
Taking a Stand
Dr. Moore advises people that are having trouble with someone who might have an addiction to contact a licensed therapist or doctor for any necessary information.
