part of Gonzalez’s job and others’ at
the Allston Brighton CDC is to provide counseling to families that
are new
to the area and are trying to find an apartment.
The Allston Brighton CDC helps families understand the contract
agreements before they sign them.
“Sometimes people sign things without checking,” he
said.
The organization also helps people understand their rights and
in some cases goes to court with them.
“We provide counseling, we find code violations,” Gonzalez
said.
Latinos en Accion is a committee developed in October 2002 by
the Allston Brighton CDC that has identified many code violations
such as the bedbug epidemic, Gonzalez said.
“Bedbugs is a huge issue,” he said. “We
are in the process of informing people and advocating for change.”
